Can you believe it -Valentine's Day is just around the corner.

Come make a Valentine's Sweet Treat Gift Tin with me. Each tin holds 4 Hershey's Snack Sized Candy Bars. Pick a design or color and create your own Sweet Treat Tin. The class fee is $10 for the first tin and $6 for each additional tin. When you RSVP let me know how many gift tins you would like to make.

These tins are deceptively easy but they use a lot of tools. Here are just the few I can think of: Texturz Embossing Plates; Square Lattice, Perfect Polka Dots and Vintage Wallpaper Embossing Folders; Movers & Shapers; Corner, Full Heart, Modern Label and Large Oval Punches; French and English Sale-A-Bration Outlined Occasions and I {Heart} Heart Stamp Sets and some pretty ribbon too.

Big Changes coming...

DearFriends,

I feellike I have been detached from the “outside” world since the ChristmasHolidays. I apologize for neglecting myfriendships.

My husbandand I have been praying about some major changes for our family. My wonderful daughter is about to enter middleschool and that has me excited for the opportunities she will have but I amalso concerned about the size of the schools she will attend after her elementaryschool career ends. Allen has top notchschools. Chandler Elementary School hasbeen wonderful for my children but we are going to move into the much smallerLovejoy School District. We are buildinga new home only two miles east of where we already live. Sounds like déjà vu to me. Just five and a half years ago we moved twomiles east to this house.

I am excitedto be building a custom home with a great craft room and spacious kitchen. Both will be inspiring for creativity andcooking. As we put the final details tothe floor plans I will keep you updated on our building process.

Aswonderful as this home had been for us we must part with it. The FOR SALE sign is in the front yard and itwill soon hit the MLS listings. I have ALOT of un-decorating to do first. If youknow of anyone who wants a well-cared-for home in Parker Lake Estates pleaserefer them my way.

Fishing in Alaska

At the end of August my husband was able to travel to Alaska forthe first time, and hopefully not the last. Their group flew intoAnchorage and then traveled to The Katmai National Park & Preserve where he was a guestat the Kulik Lodge. He went fly fishingfor the first time. I know they did alot of catch-and-release, but he did bring home a beautiful and tastysalmon. We had part of it for dinnertonight and I was inspired to write about it. Let me tell you, nothing in the grocery store (or Costco, sorry)compares to this fresh, Alaskan salmon. We have a few filets left in the deep freezer and I think we will savethem for a special occasion. Good thingthe kids won’t even taste it – that means more for us. Beside fishing in several different rivers,he saw lots and lots of bears. They wereeating salmon too. Below is a picture totonight’s dinner before it knew it would be traveling to Texas.

My "New" Fvorite Stamp Set

Field Flowers is my new favorite stamp set. I never really liked two-step stamping, but with this set you really can't go wrong. I didn't even use a Stamp-a-ma-jig. The Sweet Set ink colors of Blushing Bride ink under the Regal Rose ink is perfect. And since you're cutting out the image afterwards you get to shape the petals anyway you see fit. Maybe I need a bee buzzing in the background... where is my Nature Walk stamp set?

I'm not sure who to give credit to for my inspiration. It was an early morning (4am) and I just could not sleep anymore. And apparently did not bookmark my source.

I love this tool! Here is a video to show you how to use it. This is the best one I have viewed.

I bought mine when Inky Antics came to the Great American Scrapbooking Event in Arlington, TX in June. You can find Inky Antics and more about the Bow-Easy on their BLOG. This is a great resource. I love mine, as I said before, but I always forget how to use it in between uses. Inky Antics blog is a GREAT resource for instructions, measurements and details. Dear Friends,

A long time ago (like maybe the day before my oldest was born) I sewed every free minute I had. I taught quilting classes for adults and home-schooled girls at the Bernina Sewing Center of Plano. A friend introduced me to paper crafting and I fell in love all over again with another hobby. It takes much less time to make a card than a queen size quilt. I have a very short attention span now - wonder why? Anyway, I used to belong to the Quilters Guild of Plano and the Allen Quilt Guild. I even won several ribbons in the Quilt Plano shows of the past. This is a wonderful quilt show right in our neighborhood. The Plano Centre is at the corner of Spring Creek and Jupiter in Plano. Really, just around the corner. It's worth an afternoon. I hope to see you there.

To Convention and Beyond.....

Oh My Goodness!!! Can you imagine 3000+ happy women in one place at one time? That would describe the 2011 Stampin' Up! Convention in Salt Lake City. I had an amazing time, met ladies from all over the USA and Canada, and brought back lots of cool goodies. I also swapped card fronts and 3D items with demonstrators - very diverse and unique ideas to share with you.

Just a reminder there are 5 days left to become a SU Demonstrator for $99. The Summer Mini promotion runs to the end of August. If you do not have a Summer Mini - let me know and I will deliver one to you.

Shannon and I are gearing up for SOUL SISTERS at the St. Jude Craft Fair in Allen, TX - November 4-5, 2011.

VC Rocks June Blog Hop - Big Shot Madness

I love my Big Shot! I really do not know if it is possible for me to design a card without it. As my fellow VC Rocker, Carey Rogers, calls it a "he or him" and refers to it as "Mr. Big Shot." I honestly can say he is more useful than some of the family members in my house. But he cannot keep your feet warm at night and he does not purr.

My project below was actually from a card class taught by my Soul Sister, Shannon Miramontes. She should be a VC Rocker but she has the cutest almost 3 year old (who does not nap everyday anymore) so I share my VC Rocks experience with her. (BTW: she loves the May Swaps.) Shannon and I also have a blog we work on together with our craft fair ideas. We are SoulSisters-StampInStyle.blogspot.com

The card base is Baja Breeze. The technique used with Mr. Big Shot is called Embedded Embossing. In a nutshell, you layer all your papers, glue them together, then send the whole thing through Mr. Big Shot. He can handle it. I have never broken a plate, but I have folded back that extra flap a time or two.

Supplies you'll need for this card are: Baja Breeze, Marina Mist, Old Olive, and Whisper White Card Stock. Green House Gala DSP. Antique Brads, Whisper White 5/8” Satin Ribbon, and The Bird Punch. For your Big Shot you will need the Vintage Wallpaper Embossing Folder. Really, that's it. If you want the measurements, please email me, but it is a pretty straight forward card design with a very special technique. I hope you try this out someday. We had Ryan's birthday, his First Holy Communion, baseball games, thunder storms, cat scan, school field trips, orthodontist visits, two mental health days, found Cooper a new home, field day, doctor visits, Memorial day, awards ceremonies, class parties, last-day-of-school, and The Great American Scrapbook Event.

It's not a Stampin' Up! event but it is bound to be tons of fun! Last summer my friend Connie brought back tons of goodies to show me after she attended The Great American Scrapbook Convention. I had never heard of Tim Holtz before then. Maybe I was living under a rock or something. I think she even went back for a second day. Well, this year, I am going on Friday with Connie and a few other friends. I do not like going to new places alone - and shopping is always better with friends. It has been a long time since I attended something this BIG. I went to the Houston Quilt Festival several times before kids. I am excited that this event is within easy driving distance and I can be home in time to put my children to bed.

What is VC Rocks?

VC Rocks is a virtual celebration of the rubber stamp company Stampin' Up!

Our annual celebration runs from mid-April through August.

It's a CELEBRATION of Stampin' Up!'s new catalog release and annual convention.

It's a gathering spot for both Stampin' Up! demonstrators and customers.

It's an expression of our ENTHUSIASM for Stampin' Up!'s new stamps and products.

It's a SHARING of creative stamping and scrapping ideas through swaps, make and takes, challenges and classes.

It's SUPPORT for our SU demos with swaps and ideas for their business,

And it's ENCOURAGEMENT of friendships based on our common interest in stamping and Stampin' Up!

Dear Friends,
I love this group! It is a very high volume email group. There are challenges to keep you motivated, swaps to keep you creating and lots of information exchanges as well as a few pirate raids and forking incidents. Last year, I earned the Silver Medal for my participation and made a lot of new online friends. After a discussion on "oooie gooie butter cake" several of us North Texas Rockers met at 5th Street Pizza in Allen, TX. I am still in touch with several of these ladies. I am looking forward to meeting more Rockers at the real convention in July. They are accepting new members until the end of May. Read the membership guidelines on the site listed below.

May Card Classes

The Open Sea

This stamp set is perfect for Father's Day, masculine birthdays or thank you cards. I used four of the five stamps in the set. You can find Baker's Twine in three colors in the *new* Summer Mini Catalog. I used it to wrap the Nautical Expedition Designer Series Paper under the stamped image. I was inspired by the amazing Ilina Crouse. You can find her here.

Pretty Postage and the Postage Stamp Punch

Stampin' Up! designed the perfect punch to go with the stamp set or did the stamp set inspire the punch? They combine to make this card special for any occasion. While browsing the web I found Julie Belramo. She used Rich Razzleberry for her card base and DSP for the 3x3 square. Looking through my paper stash I did not have the "exact" DSP... so I made my own with My Digital Studio. I downloaded the Presto Patterns Digital Brush Stamp Set, downsized the image, recolored it Sahara Sand, and printed it on Naturals White Card Stock. I spritzed Champagne Shimmer Mist over the card front before attaching the ribbon. The Wide Striped Ribbon in both Old Olive and Black look great with the Red Ridinghood Card Stock.

I am still playing with designs for a third card to teach. You will make four each of three different card designs. Trust me you'll enjoy the third card - it promises to be bright and colorful.

Craft Room Creativity

Yesterday I was in full swing designing cards for April. This is what my room looked like before I cleaned it up.

And this morning it looked like this...

I have many hansome helpers, don't I? Ginger and Sophie are sisters. They are almost five years old. Grape is our youngest cat. She is not quite a year old ~kittens are so much fun. Cooper, the dog, is our newest family member. He came to us on New Year's eve eve, December 30, 2010. Cooper was in foster care after being found wandering the streets in chilly November. Our vet thinks he is about six years old. For the most part... everyone gets along.

April Card Classes

March is not quite over yet, but I have had a busy and inspirational weekend. The design juices were really flowing yesterday. These are the three cards I designed for my April Card Class. Two convenient times to choose from: Thursday, April 7 at 9:30 am or 7:00 pm. Or at your home, anytime!

I was inspired by Amy Reinhardt at http://www.narrowroadstamping.blogspot.com/ for this card. There are lots of beautiful cards on her blog. Thank you Amy for your great design.

I learned a new technique called embedded embossing. This card features this "new" technique. Pretty cool, eh? Come learn how at my class.

For this card I actually took apart the Friendly Word Wheel and remounted it as a flat stamp. Many stampers are "Wheel Challenged" and cannot drive a straight line with a wheel. At $8.50 a jumbo wheel is a great value. By taking the rubber off the wheel I was able to color the images in as I wanted to and then stamp it when I was ready. There are lots of resources online for how to convert your wood mount stamps to clear mount stamps. I visited Susan V. Peters's blog and adapted her technique for my stamps. (Here is the link.) I used a similar process for the wheel. Below are pictures of the Friendly Words Wheel "whole" and in "pieces". I got this fabulous idea from Judy Morrow on her blog confessionsofaribbonaddict.blogspot.com.

Snow Days

Here is a peek into my craft room. I recently vacated a spare bedroom and took over this space. I can keep an ear on the kids and I'm close to the kitchen for dinner prep. The furniture came from JCPenny - it looks just like its higher priced cousin from Pottery Barn.

There are two desk tops pushed together in the center of the room so I have lots of space to spread out or I can craft with a stampin' BFF (Shannon, you know I mean you). Matching file cabinets anchor the table to the space. My snail adhesive and clear blocks are right in the top drawer. Two of my three purr-buddies are parked on the desk. I replaced the light bulbs in the ceiling fan with CFLs and it is sooo bright in here. I love the lighting.

The "Believe" and "Family" signs came from a trip to Canton, TX with some wonderful friends. God and Family first (then rubber stamps).

Stampin' Up! sells this great decorative vinyl stuff. The WELCOME on the door took less than 5 minutes to apply. In the Sale-a-bration catalog you can earn FREE Chalkboard Decor Elements. I have two on the cabinet doors. My daughter has taken over that desk space.

We all worked on these Valentine's treats while enjoying American Idol. I can not tell you how many times I told the kids (and husband) these are NOT for YOU! To make wrapping the Hershey's Nuggets super easy - I printed my Specialty Designer Love Impressions paper on mailing labels. I have been using my Stampin' Up! digital software for lots of things recently. Both pictures above were created in My Digital Studio. The kids have been out of school for FOUR DAYS! Thank goodness for wii, tv, and family games AND STAMPS!

Stamp Sets: Friends Never Fade, sentiment from Watercolor Trio

CS: Bashful Blue, Marina Mist 2 ¼ x 3 ½ , Whisper White 2 x 3

Ink: Marina Mist, VersaMark

Stampin' Write Markers: Bashful Blue, Marina Mist, Certainly Celery

Tools: Certainly Celery Satin Ribbon, Adhesive, Dimensionals

Make card base from Bashful Blue. On the card front, randomly stamp the Ornate flower image with VersaMark.

Using the brush tip end of the marker color the flower stamp. Start with Certainly Celery on the stems and leaves. Then use Bashful Blue on the large flower and the smallest flower bud. Marina Mist goes on the interior petals of the large flower and on the larger flower bud. It is okay for your marker colors to blend or overlap a little on your stamp if you start with the lightest color first.

Layer the Whisper White on the Marina Mist with adhesive. The ribbon is next. Try this the next time your use ribbon. I prefer to cut a piece of ribbon the width of the unit plus two finger widths. I use adhesive to attach the ribbon ends to the backside of the layered unit. Then I go back and tie the knot. Leave the ribbon on the spool, adjust your knot and tales the way you want them and then cut at an angle. You save ribbon this way and the ends won’t fray if you cut at an angle.

Use adhesive or Dimensionals to attach the ribbon decorated layer to the card base.

Stamp your favorite sentiment at the bottom as you desire. I used the Birthday Wishes stamp from the new stamp set Watercolor Trio featured in the 2010 Summer Mini Catalog. Clear stamps make it very easy to see what you are doing and stamp exactly where you intend.

Hope you like the simplicity of this card design. I have had a lot of time to reflect on what my friends mean to me. I opened a book of quotes “Say it with Style” edited by Tayna Fox and these are the ones that jumped out at me. The stampers on VC Rocks have become real friends, not virtual friends. Some of us even got together for a real lunch at a GREAT pizza place in Allen, TX called 5th Street Pizza. I hope to see them after the real convention and eat more great pizza.

Ink: Stazon Jet Black, Craft White

Marker: Bashful Blue

Tools: Corner Punch, Ribbon*, Sponge Daubers, Dimensionals, Adhesive

Make card base from Bashful Blue. On the card front, randomly stamp the flower outline image with Black. Randomly stamp the solid flower image with Craft White.

Stamp the flower bouquet image on Whisper White (2 ¼ x 3 ¼) with Black. Color petals with the Bashful Blue marker. Punch corners. Dab the sponge dauber in the Bashful Blue ink pad and pounce on the edges of the WW CS. Layer on Black (2 ½ x 3 ½). Punch corners.

Stamp the sentiment on Whisper White (2 ¼ x 1 ¼) with Black. Dab the sponge dauber in the Bashful Blue ink pad and pounce on the edges of the WW CS. Punch corners. Layer on Black (2 ½ x 1 ½). Punch corners.

Tie the ribbon* around the card. Use Dimensionals or adhesive to attach the flower and sentiment stamped pieces to the card base.

Basic Black: 2.25 x 3.25

Stamp-a-ma-jig

1.) Stamp flowers with Jet Black StazOn on Whisper White 2 x 3, use a Stamp-a-ma-jig if you desire. Color with Real Red Stampin’ Write marker. Make black dots in the centers of the flowers.

2.) Punch Real Red with Word Window. Place on WW with a little Snail and use Paper Piercing Tool to poke holes through layers fold back the extra tab and attach with black brads.

3.) Layer on Basic Black 2.25 x 3.25

4.) Fold Real Red 5.5 x 4.25 in half with bone folder

5.) Attach inset with snail. Center it horizontally, but leave a little more room at the bottom than the top for the sentiment.

6.) Stamp little flowers and sentiment with Jet Black Stazon and make wandering dots with a Black Stampin’ Write marker. Color the little flowers with Uni-ball Signo White Gel Pen and color the centers black with marker.
